Growing up in Silver Spring, Maryland, at the young age of 14, he was hired by BLT Productions at a T-Shirt Shop. Within 6 months, he was made the store manager.
In 1979, Stephen was hired at the Bonifant Road Exxon filling station as a full-service pump jockey. When he turned 16, he was promoted to night shift manager. Stephen held onto both positions until after graduating from Paint Branch High School in 1982.
While attending Montgomery College, he was hired by A+P Food Stores as a porter grocery bagger. Within months of being hired, he was prompted to become an apprentice meat cutter. Going on to become a Journeyman Meat Cutter. Stephen was then promoted to Meat Manager. Managing and overseeing the Meat, Seafood, Deli, and Bakery Departments.
After several years of seeing the inner workings of a very large corporation, he decided to do what many members of his family had been doing for well over 100 years in Maryland, and open his own business. Stephen Barrett launched Painting
Black Monday on October 19, 1987, that company went on to become Stephen Lewis Barrett Contracting, LLC, specializing primarily in residential roofing, guttering, siding, and window replacements in Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.
Stephen & his wife Teri have been together for over 31 years, they have been blessed with 3 wonderful children and a magnificent grandson.
Stephen and his family have lived in Frederick County, raised their children and run their businesses here in Frederick County, for 22 years.
Stephen and Teri, along with their sons Tim & John have been running the family owned and operated businesses, one of which was founded 34 years ago. The other being an environmentally friendly used cooking oil collection & recycling business.
Stephen currently serves on the board of a local Non-profit here in Frederick County Maryland.
As a Christian, a Husband, father, grandfather & business owner for over 34 years, he decided enough is enough! He could no longer sit idly by and continue to witness the demolition of our constitutional rights by the radical left agenda being enacted by our State legislators.
He decided once and for all that he could no longer sit and watch out of touch politicians destroy our County… and our State! Over the last several years he witnessed the radical liberals and failed policies erode our God-given rights and freedoms. As a fighter and a survivor, Stephen Barrett felt called to serve his neighbors, friends, and family in our state legislature. Stephen listened to that calling and as a result is running for Maryland’s State Senate in District 4.
